I am kind of a control freak, but somehow in Alaska and on the Wilderness Adventurer with my wife of 50 years I was mellow and lay back. UnCruise, this is a feat like no other. We sailed, saw and ate, and it really did not matter where we were on the map it was fascinating.
I stressed so much about picking the perfect itinerary. Linda did her work on me and there is no perfect itinerary, it does not matter you will see what you came to see, whales, glaciers and bears. Yup, and we did. Particularity chose this for its two days in Glacier Bay and to view other glaciers rs as well. It was Glacier heavy I can say. Was it better than other itineraries, I do not know, but can’t see how it would be, this was wonderful.
Then stressing on which ship. Chose the smallest at 60 passengers. Wasted brain power, would 70 or 86 really been any different, doubt it. So a learning experience I guess.
We may have been in Frederick Sound when we were surrounded by whales, I didn’t stress over where on the map, it was, a fascinating experience. When the crew and chef comes out to watch you know you have hit something unusual. We saw whales from a distance almost every day, but this was one of the up close and personal encounters. Wow!
The food, a main issue on any vacation … I am very particular and have many issues. I gave a list of my issues. Per Linda’s suggestion, I sat down with the main Chef for a few minutes to go over things. Apparently he had the notes we had put in the reservation and was set to accommodate. With a few mishaps the first day or two he was very accommodating and it all turned out well. My wife rated the food as fresh, plentiful and excellent, I will say better than average, fresh and plentiful.
Our cabin aboard Wilderness Adventurer was small and comfortable. We slept like babies being out in the fresh air all day. We had a Pathfinder, with a door outside (definitely suggest this), and a window. The ceilings are low, I believe in all the cabins so it feels a little closed in. I think I would have enjoyed a newer little larger ship as I think about it. But I chose this for it intimate nature being small.
It was a wonderful week. We would like to go back in a few years. Do it a little differently next time. Pick an itinerary with beginning and ending ports being different and maybe the Safari Endeavor or if money allows the Safari Quest. UnCruise, we will definitely be back.
