Cruise Review: National Geographic Venture – Exploring Alaska Coastal Wilderness – June 2022

Great time was had by all. Cabin comfortable, food great. Category 4 with step out balcony, a plus!

I looked into all the small ship boats running in Alaska and ended up picking the top and most expensive. It is fact having the National Geographic experts on your ship add a huge level of value no that no other company can provide. Get what you pay for.

Overnight in Sitka, cute little town with way to many cars and people on sea days, otherwise I hear very quiet and empty. The airport is sumthin. We were so hungry when we arrived we got our luggage and went to the restaurant at the airport. Cute name that I can’t remember. Best chicken sub sandwich I have ever had.

Once on the National Geographic Venture we were taken over by the staff and treated to everything. We were lectured on what to expect for the week, and it did not disappoint at all. We had perfect weather which the staff said was not common, sun all week.

We went on the zodiac to the glacier, and around to see rock formations, waterfalls, bears in the tundra. We saw owls, birds of all kids, whales and many of them and close up to the ship. We kayaked and that was fun, not being experienced we tended to stay closer to the ship than most did. There was always an Linblad staff person on a kayak trolling around in case of any issues. We felt safe.

We did so much but we had a good rest each night. It is that great fresh clean air that does that to you.

I want to mention the other passengers were from 16 – I think about 85’s. Many had credits from prior cruses that had been cancelled for the last two years. The majority seemed to have traveled with Lindblad on some other itineraries. The conversations were Lindblad is the best no matter where it goes. This being our first I can’t say. They sail all over the world, hard to decide what would be next.

I give the whole experience a 9 1/2 Plus.
