Wilderness Explorer

Cruise Review: Wilderness Explorer – Northern Passages & Glacier Bay – June 2016

The Wilderness Explorer cruise from Juneau to Glacier Bay and to Sitka was amazing! All the crew was very professional, warmly engaging, entertaining and genuine in their desire to explore and please.

All the guides, especially chief coordinator Dai Mar, Marika, Dan and Wilson, were knowledgable in marine and field science to make each day rewarding and so much fun whether kayaking, bushwhacking, viewing glaciers or, most of all, snorkeling! The underwater world was incredibly exciting because we could see up close such an abundance of marine life; anemones, sea cucumbers, crabs, herring, a colony of at least a dozen large sea stars all surrounded by curious seals examining us from a safe distance in the water. I kept saying every day was the best yet, but each day revealed something more thrilling than the day before.

Also Mary Lou, the Glacier Bay Ranger who joined our cruise for the day we spent in Glacier Bay was another unexpected treat. She graciously shared her extensive knowledge of glaciation, geology and history of the Bay and Bartlett Cove. Plus I saw a porcupine in the wild for the first time!

Overall Dai Mar and respective guides managed to keep us very well informed of our activities and on schedule so that we were prepared for our next adventure and well fed or just going to the lounge for some reading, relaxing and for Kim’s special happy hour. Our cabin a Pathfinder 114 was fine.

I want go back to Alaska and enjoy the same experience seeing more new places!
