The 58-passenger Sea Cloud is a ship with a soul, imbued by the original owners, Marjorie Merriweather Post and her husband E.F. Hutton in the 1930s. The ship has played host to royalty, known service in wartime, and sailed the world over. She is a vessel of incomparable grace that harks back to the golden age of ship travel. Once you’ve been on Sea Cloud under full sail, you’ll begin your own love affair.
Sea Cloud accommodates 58 guests in 30 outside cabins, including two original owner’s suites that still feature original marble baths and fireplaces. At 360 feet she is an expansive ship with extensive public spaces on the top deck, where we luxuriate in deck chairs and watch the crew go aloft in the web of riggings to hand-set her 30 sails.
There’s no need to dress up ever; while the ship’s dining room and lounge are suitable for black-tie formality, you’ll find a certain lighthearted delight in enjoying it in casual dress. There’s no assigned seating in the dining room, which is hung with marine oil paintings of the period; in fact, many tables accommodate uneven numbers. This makes for easy mingling and the fun of sharing breakfast, lunch, or dinner with different new friends, or staff. Each evening, we’ll all gather in the lounge for Recap. And independent travelers can count on a welcome everywhere they turn. We invite you to freely roam the ship, discovering the nooks and crannies. And you’re always welcome on the bridge to watch the calm business of ship navigation unfold. Life aboard Sea Cloud is a uniquely pleasing mix of elegance and informality.
Public Spaces
On Deck
The joy of traveling aboard Sea Cloud is relaxing in her expansive, open spaces on the top deck, enjoying the ocean breeze and watching the crew at the busy task of sailing this legendary tall ship.
The open top deck areas are perfect for watching the orchestration of hand-raising and reefing Sea Cloud’s 30 sails. It is where the bar, a social hub of the ship overseen by the attentive barman, is located. And it’s where the expedition community gathers for lectures and presentations, weather permitting.
Perched above the bridge, the monkey deck looks into the web of rigging that stretches up to 180 feet overhead. It offers the sensation of going above and working riggings while surrounded by white sails. The foredeck set in front of the bridge provides a space to watch the foremast and bowsprit activity while under sail.
Dining
Sea Cloud’s dining room is paneled in warm woods and hung with original oil paintings. It is on the promenade deck, in Sea Cloud’s former salon, where Marjorie Merriweather Post received her guests. The chefs come from renowned, first-class restaurants, and offer fresh, contemporary cuisine inflected with regional flavors. We use fresh ingredients sourced locally, from sustainable providers whenever possible.
An array of fresh fruits and delicious, fresh juices are key components of the breakfast buffet. Wines from well-known regions are served with lunch and dinner, and are included in the expedition price. There are fish or meat choices at every meal, and our chef will happily accommodate special diet requests—please let us know about any requests in advance so that we may prepare.
There’s no assigned seating in the dining room; in fact, many tables accommodate uneven numbers. This makes for easy mingling and the fun of sharing breakfast, lunch, or dinner with different new friends, or staff.
