Wilderness Adventurer - Alaska Glacier Country - July 2022
Cruise review of the Wilderness Adventurer sailing Alaska’s Glacier Country in July 2022. Our family had a wonderful time on UnCruise Adventures. Amazingly the sun was out all 7 days of our adventure, we did not expect that, we all brought rain gear. The ship catered to our kids perfectly. The young ones 9,10 do not like vegetables, so we are on a vacation, not an issue, (at home it is). I found the food to be fresh, well presented and of good quality,.

We chose National Geographic Sea Lion due to the Nat Geo reputation. The fact that Lindblad runs and owns the ship we did not realize until we came across Linda at Sunstone Tours. Linda was our educator and our group leader and rah rah person getting us ready for this adventure.

We boarded the Safari Endeavor in Sitka on Saturday. The captain and crew gave us a warm welcome. This was my first time on a small ship and I was looking forward to an adventure cruise. And so it was, filled with beautiful scenery of the Tongass National Forest and wildlife which included Harbor seals which surface next the ship. Pods of orcas were seen along the water surface. on our first day. I enjoyed kayaking in secluded coves where curious sea lions popped up next to our kayak. I enjoyed observing many varieties of birds. Numerous bald eagles could be seen in the trees on shore. In addition to kayaking, we were able to see many interesting sightings of wildlife from the 12 passenger skiffs. Our guides pointed out various birds including a Kingfisher and a Blue Heron. We had one Naturalist who was wild about Jellyfish. We got quite an education along with many being brought onto the ship for us to learn and then thrown back into the water were they were happy. We spent one day in Glacier Bay National Park. Margorie Glacier could be seen through the windows of our cabin as we awoke. We traveled closer and closer as the day went by. We had specific hours that we were allowed into Glacier Bay as per our permit. As we traveled the bay, Two goats were seen high above the water grazing in the tall mountains close to our ship. Binoculars were provided and we got a closeup look of some of the birds in the area. A group of Puffins with their orange beaks were seen. Experiencing the adventure of Bushwhacking was exciting. Our guide would clear the brush so we could travel among the trees of the forest. Our knee high rubber […]

Thank you for your suggestion of Un-Cruise as we had a great time. Besides everything else that was spectacular and relaxing about this destination, they have to mix it all up with riotous laughter and fun with your group of out of work actors. 🙂 Ok, maybe that is a little harsh, as they are gainfully employed by Un-Cruise, but it is not Broadway. And that just might be a good thing.

I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. The 200 passengers are perfect for the type of ship and itinerary it is. There is no kayaking, or zodiacs on this type of cruise. For those like myself who live on the west coast, this was a thrill a minute with the traffic on the river. Never a dull moment.

The first plus of Victory II is the ship herself. We were very satisfied with our room selection. Since we were on the fourth deck, we had two chairs outside our room allowing for great views of the sea as we traveled. Also, we had easy access to the deck on the bow and to the bar and grille on the stern of the ship, where we ate every breakfast and lunch. We had a panoramic view as we enjoyed our meals.

It was fabulous! We both had our eyes opened to the history, culture and diversity of the islands. The trip logistics and our experiences with UnCruise were great. We actually found the group of passengers on this cruise to be much more adventurous and fun to be around even than on the Alaska cruise. I have already responded to UnCruise’s request for feedback, which was almost-totally very positive. The only issue we experienced had to do with the day on Lanai’i where the main experience was visiting a cat sanctuary. Unfortunately, Kim is quite allergic to cats and there were no alternate experiences planned. Thus, she had a very un-rewarding 45 minutes of waiting around while others went into the sanctuary. However, that was the only “less than awesome” day we experienced, and all the others were fabulous. As noted above, I have already provided that feedback to UnCruise. We’re definitely planning on another UnCruise voyage at some point…just need to see what the next year looks like vacation-wise, etc.
